Hawks Take 10 Inning Victory Over Top Seeded Chabot in First Round of Playoffs

After battling through 10 innings in a back-and-forth postseason matchup, the Cosumnes River College Hawks came away with a 7-5 extra-inning victory over Chabot College on May 1 behind timely hitting and a dominant relief performance from Josh Painter.

The Hawks collected 14 hits in the win, with several key offensive contributions throughout the lineup. Tyler Cody led the charge offensively, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored, while Tye Thompson turned in a huge performance at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

Cosumnes River struck first in the second inning when Cody launched a solo home run to left field to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Brayden Boyle delivered an RBI double to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Chabot answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on an error before tying the game on an RBI double.

The Hawks regained control in the fourth inning with a three-run frame. Boyle drove in another run with an RBI single before Alan Quirarte-Guzman ripped a two-run double to put Cosumnes River ahead 5-2.

Chabot slowly worked its way back into the game, scoring twice in the fifth and tying the contest in the seventh on an RBI single.

After both teams were held scoreless through the eighth and ninth innings, the Hawks broke through in the 10th. Thompson sparked the rally before a bases-loaded walk from Jason Alexander brought home the go-ahead run. Moments later, Brent Martin added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5.

On the mound, Josh Painter was outstanding in relief, tossing five innings while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four to secure the victory for the Hawks.

Boyle finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Quirarte-Guzman added two RBIs of his own. Lukas Hutson contributed two hits and scored twice in the winning effort.

Despite the victory, the Hawks fell short against Folsom Lake College, losing both games in series 2-0 in game one and 9-5 in their second match, as the Falcons eliminated the Hawks and advanced to the next round.
