Hawks Stay Undefeated At Home

Sacramento, CA - After a double header on Wednesday, the Hawks regrouped before taking on Shasta College and Taft College at home. Flying out to an early lead, the Hawks offense was too much for the visiting Knights of Shasta College. Cosumnes River College outscored Shasta 75-59 in the three set match, combining for 41 kills to the 27 of Shasta. Deziree McKee, a redshirt sophomore, lead the Hawks with 16 kills on 34 attempts while looking unstoppable for the match. Miah Williamson added 9 to the Hawks' kill total along with 7 by Taryn Oberle. Giovanna Parino totalled 33 assists in the match, assisting in 80% of the team's kills plus 2 service aces. The Hawks defense combined for 52 digs compared to the 46 of the Knights. Abigail Hicks dug 15 of the Knights attacks, setting up her teammates throughout the match. Isabella Bugarin also racked up double digit digs with 10. Along the front lines, Miah Williamson and Deziree McKee both totalled 2 solo blocks. Miah combined for 2 combo blocks along with Kaley Dosier. After the match which lasted just over an hour, the Hawks got to rest before taking on Taft College later on in the evening. 

The brief intermission, resulted in a slow start for the Hawks in the second game of the evening resulting in a first let loss of 22-25 against the Cougars of Taft College. Once again the Hawk offense proved an insurmountable obstacle for the visiting team with CRC totalling 68 kills to 50 by Taft. Deziree McKee carried over her momentum from the first game by totalling 22 kills on 42 swings, a .381 kill percentage. Not wanting to be outdone, Miah Williamson earned 21 kills on 41 attempts, a .341 kill percentage. Kaley Dosier picked up double digits in kills by adding 12 to the Hawks' total. Giovanna Parino increased her assist percentage by assisting on 56 of the 68 kills the Hawks totalled, an 86.7% rate. Four Hawks totalled double digit dig totals during the five set match. Abigail Hicks totalled 28 digs, adding to her conference leading total. Ainsley Beckman racked up 17 digs in the match followed by Isabella Bugarin (14) and Anna Thomas (11). Up front, the Hawks combined for 12 combo blocks lead by Deziree McKee and her 4 combos. Ashanti Cason, Kaley Dosier, and Miah Williamson all added 2 apiece to the stellar blocking effort by CRC. 

Up Next- The Hawks (6-4) travel on Wednesday to Yuba College to take on the Lassen College Cougars (0-8) and the hosting Yuba College 49ers (1-3). The start time of the Lassen game will be 3:00 pm with the Yuba match starting at the conclusion of the match vs Lassen. This will be the last preseason matchup before Cosumnes River College begins conference play on Friday.
