STOCKTON (10-5) – The Hawks traveled to Stockton looking to rebound from a disappointing loss to Santa Rosa Junior College against the Mustangs of San Joaquin Delta College.
In the first half, the Hawks struck first as they took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a goal by Francisco Comparan for his fifth goal of the season off an assist by Dominic Mastretti. The Hawks led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Mustangs tied the match up in the 55th minute off a broken play that beat Alexis Jacobo-Trejo to the far post. In the 70th minute, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick after Comparan was fouled in the penalty area. Lincoln Carvalho scored his fifth goal of the year and the Hawks regained the lead at 2-1. The Hawks then made two costly errors and handed the Mustangs two penalty kicks. The first coming in the 73rd minute after a foul was called. Jacobo-Trejo made two point-blank saves before the Hector Romero scored in their third attempt to tie the game at 2-2. In the last minutes of the match, the Mustangs converted another penalty kick, this one off the foot of Lucas Travis, to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
The Hawks will now start a stretch of four non-conference games beginning Tuesday as they take on College of the Sequoias in Sacramento at 4 pm.
