The Cosumnes River College baseball team went toe-to-toe with College of the Sequoias in a competitive two-game home set on February 4–5, battling down to the final innings in both contests but coming up just short.
In the opener on Wednesday, the Hawks showed resilience throughout an 8–6 setback. CRC answered Sequoias' early scoring immediately, tying the game in both the first and second innings behind RBI singles from Jimmy Radler and productive sacrifice flies from Henry Ramsey and Tyler Cody. After Sequoias capitalized on a big fourth inning, the Hawks chipped away, highlighted by Jaylen Dawson's RBI triple and another run driven in on a sacrifice fly. Kenyon Sanders sparked the offense, scoring twice and stealing two bases, while Radler went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Thursday's matchup followed a similar script, with Cosumnes River once again clawing back from an early deficit in a tightly contested 7–6 loss. The Hawks erased a four-run third-inning hole with timely hitting, as Alan Quirarte-Guzman and Jimmy Radler delivered back-to-back RBI doubles, and Brent Martin and Tye Thompson added run-scoring singles in the fifth to pull CRC within one. The Hawks tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Guadalupe Gonzalez, showcasing their ability to manufacture runs under pressure.
Despite the narrow defeats, Cosumnes River displayed grit, balance, and depth across both games, consistently answering Sequoias' scoring and putting pressure on them into the late innings. The Hawks' ability to battle back, generate offense throughout the lineup, and get quality relief pitching provides strong momentum as they continue their early-season schedule.
