Hawks Respond Back Splitting Double Header with American River
The Cosumnes River College softball team earned a split in a high-scoring Big 8 Conference doubleheader at American River on Friday, falling 11-10 in a back-and-forth Game 1 before bouncing back with a commanding 10-5 victory in Game 2.
Game 1 featured an offensive showdown, with both teams tallying 15 hits. The Hawks erased an early 6-0 deficit with a seven-run surge across the fourth and fifth innings. Key moments included a two-RBI triple from Emily Azemar and timely hits from Emma Misasi and Faith Hahn to give Cosumnes River a 7-6 lead.
The Hawks added to their advantage in the seventh inning when Ashley Garcia drove in a run and Imani Black delivered a clutch two-run home run to extend the lead to 10-7. However, American River responded in the bottom half, plating four runs—including two game-winning hits—to walk off with the 11-10 victory.
Black led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and two RBIs, while Azemar finished 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Garcia also added three hits, and Hahn contributed two RBIs in the loss.
Cosumnes River responded emphatically in Game 2, using a six-run second inning to take early control. The Hawks capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Black and run-producing efforts from Kaylena Ogle and Faith Hahn.
Charlize Fasula had a standout performance, scoring three runs and adding two hits and an RBI, while Hahn drove in three runs. Misasi and Black each added RBIs as part of a balanced offensive attack.
In the circle, Ogle delivered a complete-game effort, allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out two and walking none to secure the win.
Cosumnes River will look to build on the Game 2 victory as they continue Big 8 Conference play.
