Sacramento, Calif. — January 31, 2026 — The Cosumnes River College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Lassen College on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off victory in Game 1 and a strong all-around performance in Game 2.
Game 1: Cosumnes River 2, Lassen 1 (7 innings)
The opener was a tightly contested pitcher's duel that came down to the final inning, where the Hawks delivered a clutch walk-off to secure the win.
Lassen struck first in the top of the third inning when Nadia Velazquez drove in Lilly Fanene with an RBI single to give the visitors a 1–0 lead. That advantage held until the bottom of the seventh, as Lassen pitcher Zoey Heffelfinger and Cosumnes River starter Xochitl Atayde traded zeros through the middle innings.
In the decisive seventh, Mia Ballejos scored the tying run before Atayde delivered the game-winning moment, singling to center field to even the score. Moments later, Emma Misasi sealed the victory with a walk-off RBI single to third base, bringing Atayde home and lifting the Hawks to a 2–1 win.
Atayde was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and one run, striking out seven to earn the victory. Offensively, Cosumnes River collected 11 hits, led by Misasi (3-for-4, RBI) and Atayde (2-for-4, RBI).

Lassen opened the scoring in the second inning, but Cosumnes River responded immediately.
