Hawks Compete at ARC Sprint Pentathlon
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Cosumnes River College men's swimming team turned in a competitive showing Friday at the ARC Sprint Pentathlon, held at American River College, finishing sixth overall with 318.1 points against a strong nine-team field.
The Hawks were led by a standout performance from James Pitcock, who placed 18th overall in the high point standings with 451.0 points. Pitcock delivered CRC's top finishes in the pool, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.98. He also contributed across multiple events, including the 100 IM and 100 butterfly, showcasing his versatility in the sprint-heavy format.
Jonah Mafnas followed closely behind as another key contributor, totaling 447.5 points on the day. Mafnas recorded a ninth-place finish in the 50 free (22.27) and added strong swims in the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke, helping pace the Hawks' scoring effort.
Additional contributions came from Alexander Lal, Matthew Barbusca, and Ahmad Rahim, each posting solid swims and combining for valuable team points. Lal showed improvement across his events, including the 100 IM and 100 fly, while Barbusca recorded one of the team's biggest time drops with a nearly nine-second improvement in the 100 IM. Rahim also added points in both the 50 free and 100 IM.
Pavel Perzhu rounded out the scoring for CRC, competing in multiple events and contributing to the team's overall total.
As a team, the Hawks recorded four personal bests and three season-best performances, continuing to show progress as the season moves forward.
