STOCKTON, Calif. — Cosumnes River College battled throughout a three-game set but ultimately fell to No. 7 San Joaquin Delta in Big 8 Conference play, dropping all three contests despite flashes of offensive production and early-game momentum.
The series opened on April 1 with a high-scoring contest in which the Hawks tallied 11 hits but came up short in a 10-7 loss. Cosumnes River struck first and remained within reach for much of the game, highlighted by a strong performance from Alan Quirarte-Guzman, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and two RBIs. Brent Martin and Jimmy Radler each added two RBIs as the Hawks continued to apply pressure late, scoring twice in the ninth inning. However, a six-run first inning by Delta proved to be the difference.
In the April 2 matchup, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind RBI singles from Ryan Okino and Jimmy Radler. Despite collecting 11 hits, Cosumnes River was unable to maintain momentum as Delta responded with a three-run fifth inning to tie the game before pulling away late for a 10-4 victory. Jason Alexander and Brent Martin each recorded multi-hit performances, while Jaylen Dawson contributed an RBI.
The series finale on April 3 saw another competitive effort from the Hawks, who briefly took the lead on a two-run home run by Tyler Cody in the third inning. The Mustangs responded quickly and steadily built their lead, ultimately securing a 7-3 win. Aaron Del Real led the Hawks with two hits and an RBI, while Cody accounted for two of the team's three runs.
Across the series, Cosumnes River showed consistency at the plate, recording double-digit hits in the first two games and six more in the finale. Quirarte-Guzman, Martin, and Radler paced the offense throughout the series, while the pitching staff faced a potent Delta lineup that combined for 32 runs over three games.
The Hawks will look to bounce back as they return home next week for a key conference matchup kicking off their series against No. 28 Sierra College.
