Bio
Head coach Kristy Schroeder took the helm of the Cosumnes River College softball program in 2011. Over the past 14 years, she has led the Hawks to post-season play in nine seasons (2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024). In 2015 and 2024, Schroeder’s teams qualified for the CCCAA State Championships. In addition, the 2015 team won the Big 8 Conference Championship, and Schroeder was named Big 8 Conference Coach of the Year that season. During her tenure, the Hawks have made seven Super Regional appearances. Schroeder has a 621-388 career record and earned her 600th career win over Ohlone College on February 9, 2024.
Schroeder has coached two Conference Pitchers of the Year, two Conference Most Valuable Players, seven National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Americans, 17 all-Region players, and over 25 all-Big 8 honorees. Recently, Malia Babasa, Tatiana Blas, and Abigail Woodfill were named NFCA All-Americans in 2024, with Babasa also earning Big 8 Conference MVP honors. Ashlee Toy was the 2022 Big 8 Pitcher of the Year, and her teammate Danielle Pfennig was an NFCA All-American. Schroeder has also built a tradition of helping Hawk alumni transfer to four-year universities. In total, she has helped 27 players earn spots at schools such as the University of Kansas, Sacramento State, University of the Pacific, San Diego State, Concordia University (CA), Cal State Monterey Bay, Chico State, Cal State San Marcos, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Cal State Stanislaus, Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay, San Francisco State, and Southern Oregon University.
Schroeder came to CRC with extensive coaching and playing experience at several levels. She previously served as Head Softball Coach at UC Santa Barbara, where from 2002–2007 she collected 173 wins and turned the Gauchos into annual postseason contenders. During her tenure, UCSB made its first and only NCAA tournament appearances three times in school history. In 2003, her second year with the Gauchos, she led UCSB to a 34-22 record—the best overall in school history—and coached the program’s first All-American. She earned Big West Conference Co-Coach of the Year honors in 2002.
In her first head coaching position, Schroeder led NCAA Division II Truman State University to two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championships in three seasons. Each year, the Bulldogs were regional finalists in the NCAA tournament. Schroeder was twice named MIAA Coach of the Year, and her teams appeared in three NCAA tournaments. She coached numerous all-conference players and two All-Americans, leaving Truman State after the 2001 season as the coach with the most wins in school history, finishing with an overall record of 134-34-1.
Coach Schroeder graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA in 1994. She was a four-year starter at shortstop for two national championship teams in 1990 and 1992 and was recognized as the shortstop on the Pac-10’s All-Decade Team for the 1990s. Schroeder also played for the Bruins’ women’s soccer and tennis teams, becoming the only female three-sport letter-winner in UCLA history.
In 1998, Schroeder earned a master’s degree in Sport Psychology from the University of the Pacific. She lives in Sacramento with her husband, Pete, and their two children: Johnna (21), who plays softball at Stanford, and Asher (17), who attends Jesuit High School.
