Jeanne Calamar Inducted into CCCADA Hall of Fame
Former Cosumnes River College Assistant Athletic Director and Current Big 8 Conference Commissioner Honored for Lifetime of Service
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Cosumnes River College Assistant Athletic Director Jeanne Calamar was inducted into the California Community College Athletic Directors Association (CCCADA) Hall of Fame on June 2, recognizing a career spanning more than three decades of leadership, service, and advocacy within California community college athletics.
Calamar was was introduced by former colleague and current CRC Dean and Athletic Director Collin Pregliasco.
A longtime educator, coach, administrator, and statewide leader, Calamar has dedicated her career to improving opportunities and experiences for student-athletes throughout the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A).
Reflecting on the honor during her acceptance speech, Calamar remained characteristically humble.
"I'm still trying to figure out how I got here and why I'm here, but it's really an honor," Calamar said. "I can honestly say I didn't get here by myself, and I have to thank those who supported me along the way."
"Jeanne's impact goes far beyond wins, titles, or committees," Pregliasco said during the induction ceremony. "It's in the people she has helped, mentored, and challenged to be better every single day. Her impact across the 3C2A is enormous, but her impact on people is even greater."
Calamar began her career at Cosumnes River College in 1989 as an adapted physical education instructor and the college's first women's basketball coach, building the program from the ground up. She would go on to serve CRC for 34 years, including 29 years as Assistant Athletic Director, helping shape the culture and standards that continue to define Hawk Athletics today.
Known throughout the state for her expertise in compliance, governance, game management, and student-athlete advocacy, Calamar served on numerous conference and 3C2A committees, including 12 years on the Management Council representing basketball and softball. Following her retirement from CRC, she continued her service to community college athletics and currently serves as Commissioner of the Big 8 Conference.
"Whether it was coaching, teaching, compliance, committee work, or conference leadership, Jeanne only knew one way to do things—and that was all-in," Pregliasco said. "People trusted her because they knew the work would be done the right way and that student-athletes would always remain at the center of every decision."
In addition to her contributions in athletics administration, Calamar earned statewide recognition for her work in adapted physical education and was honored for improving the lives of individuals with disabilities throughout the community.
A six-time breast cancer survivor, Calamar's resilience, leadership, and commitment to service have made her one of the most respected figures in California community college athletics.
Throughout her acceptance speech, Calamar encouraged current and future athletic administrators to remain engaged, seek guidance from colleagues, and continue serving student-athletes.
"This is one of the best organizations I've ever been involved with, and people will help you if you just ask," Calamar said. "Don't be afraid to ask questions."
For those who worked alongside her at CRC, the Hall of Fame recognition reflects a legacy built on integrity, accountability, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
"Everything Jeanne has done throughout her career has been about making the experience better for others," Pregliasco said. "Better for student-athletes. Better for coaches. Better for institutions. Better for the conference. Better for the 3C2A. That's what makes this recognition so deserving."
Calamar concluded her remarks by reminding those in attendance why their work matters.
"Your work matters to all the athletes at your schools and all the athletes throughout the state," Calamar said. "Thank you for all you do for our student-athletes."
The CCCADA Hall of Fame honors athletic administrators whose careers have made a lasting impact on California community college athletics. Calamar's induction recognizes not only her accomplishments and service, but also the countless student-athletes, coaches, and colleagues she has influenced throughout her distinguished career.
