HAWKS HOST TALENTED TAFT TODAY

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Cosumnes River men's soccer team, undefeated in their last three matches, faces one of its most difficult tests of the season when they play host to Taft College today.

Taft, historically one of the top teams in northern California, is looking to hand the Hawks their first loss since opening conference play last month.  Taft however, has suffered their fair share of early setbacks this season, and the Hawks hope to continue that trend this afternoon.  "In the past Taft has been ranked in the top 5 to top 10 in our region," said assistant coach Brandon Evangelista this week.  "They also have been to the final four a couple of times the last few years."

This season has gone a bit different for the team from the Central Valley Conference, as Taft begins the season with a 4-3-1 overall record.  However, CRC won't be sleeping on Taft, as the recent history between the two teams has the Hawks ready to compete from the opening kick.  "Taft is usually a good technical group that stays within their system," said Evangelista of Taft.  "They play physically and have some good, fast, skilled players."

Cosumnes River is coming off a narrow 1-0 defeat of CVC opponent Sequoias on the road.  They controlled tempo for the majority of the contest, attacking the Giants on all fronts, maintaining possession and control of the match.  "It was a good game, we stayed within our system and kept possession most of the game," said assistant coach Brandon Evangelista.  "We won 1-0, but it could have been 6-0."  "We hit the posts about six times."

The Hawks will need to play a crisper match against a Taft team that possesses a more potent offensive attack than COS.  "They are unpredictable in how they play,"said Evangelista prior to the match.  "They can be very good and are a hard-nosed and physical team."

Today's match is scheduled for 4 PM.  Tickets are available for $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.  Parking permits are available at designated kiosks in the parking lots.
