MODESTO (12-8) – The Hawks finished up their time at the 81st Annual MJC Classic as they took on Ohlone College. The Hawks defeated the Renegades 73-55.
From start to finish, Paul Ohiri made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. Ohiri finished with nineteen points and a career-high sixteen rebounds. Cosumnes River played well in the first twenty minutes and had a 34-33 lead at the half as Ohlone hit a highly contested three-pointer at the buzzer to go into the half.
The Hawks smothered the Renegades on defense with a full court press in the second half. The defense led to a faster pace of play and transition scoring for the Hawks. The lead was extended quickly and maintained for the rest of the contest.
Keilen Valdry had a nice second half showing with some key perimeter scoring to give the Hawks momentum and control on the offensive end.
Ohiri had nineteen points, sixteen rebounds, three steals and one block, Valdry had twelve points and four assists, Drew Buggs had eleven points and nine rebounds and Marcus Robinson had ten points and seven rebounds.
The next game for the Hawks is December 21st as they start Big 8 Conference play against Diablo Valley College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
